One of the inspirations behind starting sealaura was for me to have a go at being a travel writer. Rick Steves has been one of my (cyber) mentors. I usually load up his podcasts and take the boys (Norman and Newman) for a walk and suddenly find myself walking the streets of Toledo. Despite my love for travel the profesora budget can be limiting, but thanks to Rick Steves I have "traveled" all over Europe and beyond!
So you can imagine how delighted I was to learn that he was coming to little old Redlands, CA. The NPR station where I volunteer, KVCR is hosting Rick and I am so excited. You might recall that last spring I went to the LA Travel show to hear him speak. It felt like I was meeting up with an old friend telling me the inside scoop on where to go and how to do it on the cheap. Even in a room filled with over 200 people, it was rather personal just like his podcasts. If you love PBS you might be interested to know that Rick is about to launch his sixth season of Rick Steve's Europe and is kicking off the season with a trip to Spain's Andalucia!! What are your favorite travel shows?
Laura you are so sweet!
ReplyDeleteI love Ian on Globe Trekker.
Your blog is one of my favorite travel 'shows!'. I love your trips.
ReplyDeleteMy bags are packed... Andalucia, here we come!
Well done, Laura! And folks - tickets ARE still available. Go to kvcr.org for more info.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite travel shows...are not branded as such. Music programming on public radio is my source for travel. Commercial radio generally won't do this. It can be enjoyed, but unlike public radio programming, a person won't be transported to another country, region...even another world!
GREAT post!
Good for you Laura!! I love good travel shows and watch Samantha Brown whenever she's on, and Anthony Bourdain too.
ReplyDeleteOh...I love to see all the places you go! You inspire me to travel more:):)
ReplyDeleteWe are going to Puerto Vallarta in December and I can't wait:):):)
Not St. Thomas....but maybe that will be for next year!!!
Have fun!!!
