How did these get here? I love nature but I know very little about geology, ecology, botany etc. Nevertheless I am in awe of these amazing formations in Joshua Tree. I felt like I time traveled while in San Diego but Joshua Tree takes you further back in time. According to some geologists these formations were born more than 100 million years ago.
If you are a climber this place will take your breath away. There is so much to do and see here
and this is a small sample.
Speaking of small, can you spot my friend Sylvia climbing in the pic above? You might want to click on it to enlarge. In case you haven't been to JTree, this pic might give you a better idea of the enormous size of these rock formations. This is my contribution for Carmi's Thematic Photographic theme of nature. Make sure to check out Carmi at Written.
I thought I was the only one that took pictures of rocks! I love cool rock formations :)

I am so proud! A science-phobe talking about science!

Have a great weekend!

What incredible textures! I never knew that rock could even be twisted in that way. Remarkable. I'd read about Joshua Tree (and, of course, listened to the incredible album by U2) but had never seen it until now.
ReplyDeleteThank you for opening my eyes to this wonder.
the first shot really puts things into perspective (man small, nature BIG).
