Being the beach lover that I am, I was curious to see this movie but not curious enough to pay full price. So I decided to rent it and enjoy it as I recovered from my bad cold. From the get go, I just wasn't feeling it. I have enjoyed films with Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, and Kristin Bell but this one felt forced, especially the interactions between Favreau and Vaughn. I got a little extra excited when I saw that Jean Reno was in it, but his performance was not enjoyable either. I felt like they were trying so hard to make this movie funny but it just fell flat. I wanted to like this movie. I like fluff! But this was not fluffy enough for me. It was tired. What is your favorite beachy movie?
I agree. We saw it in the theatre. While it had some funny moments, we just didn't care for it.
ReplyDeleteI actually loved this movie! Oh but to each their own...:) My favorite beachy movie, I have to say, cheesy as it is, cant help myself...(drum roll please): Blue Crush. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I heard bad things about this one too. Did you know it cost $70 million to produce?! Craziness. I'll probably rent it eventually though. Love the beach.
ReplyDeleteAs for fun beachy movies I did like...Forgetting Sarah Marshall comes to mind!
An excellent movie review - thank you! It's what a vaguely suspected of it - I too am a fluff fan but this one didn't quite look right to me - and now you've confirmed it!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen it...
ReplyDeleteI would have to say one of my favorite beachy movies...if you can call it that was....50 first dates...with Drew Barrymore!!
I loved that movie:)
how funny..my daughter and i just watched this last night. the scenery and "resort" were gorgeous, but i'm with you...not enough of anything. luckily we red box'd it..
ReplyDeletetry leap year, really loved it :)
thank you for the tip -- i will avoid this one!
ReplyDeletei am in a foul mood today and am having trouble thinking of any good beachy movies. humph. for some reason i wouldn't mind watching wet hot american summer. there aren't a ton of laughs in the movie, but enough to get me by. :)
Thanks for the tip, I didn't think it would be great either. Now I will not bother to Netflix it :)
ReplyDeleteWe were actually going to rent this movie and instead went out with friends this weekend. Thanks for the heads up. xo
ReplyDeletegood review! shame it wasn't too great... it looked like it could have gone either way (it could have been really funny if they did it better i would have thought!). always nice to get a heads up about how movies are! xx
ReplyDeleteI indeed passed up seeing this movie & I'm now not regretting it at all. Only reason I would have seen it is cus of Vince Vaughn, but he couldn't even get me to see it! I'm going to say my favorite beach movie, or well the one the comes to mind is Riding Giants. I guess it would be a documentary, but it's all about the beach & surfing so I think it counts.
ReplyDeleteI love the movie A Cooler Climate with Sally Field in it. It plays in a small coastal town that's supposed to be in Maine, but it was filmed in Canada. I'm attracted to the rugged north..., but want to live in a warmer climate, ha!
