Even though I have lived in the land of Red for 5 years now, I still love exploring new shops and recently I ran into a thrift store that is new to me. It was FULL of finds. Norm and I (yes! another Norm friendly place!) spent about 1 1/2 hours perusing through many of the lovely vintage items. This shop is State Street West @ 617 W. State Street in Redlands CA.
I am a Snoopy fanatic and just fell in love with theses beauties from the 60s. This Nancy Drew Collection is waiting to be snatched up, don't cha think?
Besides being a lovely shop it supports a wonderful cause. The owner, Newman Millholon, runs State Street West to support an orphanage in Belize which his parents started in 1958 when they worked there as missionaries.
Newman is a sweetheart. Like I said, I spent about and hour and a half there and felt like we had been good old friends. On my way out I noticed this little sign above and it made me chuckle. Gotta love a shop with a sense of humor. If you ever find yourself in the land of Red, this is a great place to stop, shop and make a new friend.

Oo la la. . .I love that mirror!
ReplyDeleteI have a set of little deer that look almost exactly like that one in front, I believe they are from the 50s. They used to belong to my mom and I think they are just adorable. I put them out at Christmas time.
ReplyDeleteI love that California is so dog friendly, I used to take my Sheldon everywhere with me. Florida is not like that, very few place welcome our little furry friends.
This is going on my list of 'must visits' next time I'm in the land of Red dear Laura!
ReplyDeleteThank you Laura for highlighting your recent thrift shopping discovery. Your visit really encouraged me. I think I'm the lucky one to have met you and to have you as my new friend. I was totally taken by your open heart and enthusiasm for life and living it fully.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I started State Street West, Feb 9th 2007 I am not the owner (even though it wouldn't fly without me). I set up State Street West but it belongs to a 501c3 nonprofit and it is operated by volunteers and donations. It is true that I set up the thrift store to support an orphanage that was started by my parents. However, after 39 years of providing a home for Belizean children without families, sadly - the orphanage closed July 7th 2009.
We are proud to announce the proceeds generated by State Street West will continue to benefit children in need. Our new beneficiary is SPECIAL START located locally in the Inland Empire and is also a 501c3 nonprofit. Special Start provides early intervention help for children with special needs.
State Street West is a great place to shop for that totally cool treasure and to support a good cause.
Laura my good friend Mike aka Pie Man loves Snoopy. xoxo
