As many of you know Norman Alexander is a very important member of my family. So I thought it was important for me to look at things from his point of view. Last night B and I trimmed his nails and it was a fiasco. Despite our best efforts to make it a no so traumatic experience, we ended up upsetting Norm and losing his trust for about 2 hours. I was so devasted. He was unwilling to come our way and retired in his little apartment downstairs instead of watching the Amazing Race with us.
Anyway, it made me think about how much these little creatures trust us. I of course trust him immensely. He knows many of my secrets and witnesses my mischief yet he never rats me out. He is definitely a loyal and constant companion. Most people know this about dogs but it is really amazing when you can experience it. The good news is this AM he was back to his normal self and we had regained his trust. YAY!

That's the best thing about dogs. No matter how traumatic the experience seems to them at the time, they never fail to forgive and forget.
ReplyDeleteThey don't hold grudges the way people do and it's a good thing they don't. Because if they were capable of that aspect of "humanity" we would cease to rule the world.
I feel for you... I left my cat alone for one night this weekend (with plenty of food and water and blankets strewn about)... returned last night to plenty of "SCREAMING AT THE TOP OF MY LUNGS BECAUSE I AM VERY ANGRY" in cat voice.
ReplyDeleteLuckily today all is well and she hasn't left my lap (she may be afraid I will take off again :)
My dog is much more forgiving (but then I think he may prefer his dogsitter).
I am so glad he reverted to his usual happy and loyal self. Through your writing and photos, it's clear that he is a very special, sweet dog.
ReplyDeleteI can't even go near Floyd with clippers. She runs away and chews them off herself. She is a strange one, but I love her!
ReplyDeleteI wish we weren't out of the house 12 hours a day. I would love to get my boys a dog...
